Ashwagandha, also called Indian Ginseng, is mainly known today for its relaxing and sleep-inducing properties. It is an ancestral plant, used for years!
As 9 out of 10 French people are affected by stress, we can consider ourselves quite numerous to be interested by the benefits of Ashwagandha. It is therefore interesting, in order to choose it well, to know what criteria to rely on and why to choose one form rather than another, before starting a cure.
So, if you are indeed looking for the best Ashwagandha, you are in the right place! We took stock of the situation, and here is our finding.

First, what is Ashwagandha?

What are the selection criteria to choose the best Ashwagandha?
As with any food and dietary supplement, it is important to choose quality products before consuming them, and in particular here, before embarking on a cure of Ashwagandha.
Therefore, in order to choose the best Ashwagandha, here are some criteria to take into account:
Purity
The first criterion is to choose a product that is pure, that is to say, that does not contain undesirable additives such as preservatives, colorants or artificial flavors. It will better preserve all the previously mentioned properties of the plant.
For this, the list of ingredients will be your accomplice! The best Ashwagandha is extracted from pure Ashwagandha root, to which no preservatives or chemicals are added.
The concentration of withanolides
Withanolides are the main active components of Ashwagandha. It is also composed of withaferine A and free amino acids. Good to know: withaferine A, in too high a dose is considered toxic. It is thus advisable to respect the recommended dosages.
What interests us to choose our supplement is the concentration of withanolides: the higher it is, the more effective Ashwagandha will be. For a complete formula, it is of course necessary not to make the impasse on its other active components.
There are different types ofAshwagandha extracts: the KSM66® extract titrated to 5% withanolides, the Sensoril® extract, offering 10% withanolides, and the unidentified extracts.
To choose the best Ashwagandha, we recommend choosing a product that contains a 5% concentration of withanolides, such as the patented KSM66® extract. Sensoril® extract, has a higher concentration of withanolides but less whitaferina A and other components. Brands selecting this extract tend to add other excipients, which does not allow for an organic Ashwagandha.
At Novoma, we have chosenKSM66® extract. Made frompure Ashwagandha root, it contains 5% withanolides. We have not added any excipients to our product, which is therefore a pure organic Ashwagandha supplement, certified by Ecocert®.
We recommend

Quality certification
A certified product is a product that is recognized as being of high quality. Some organizations like USP (United States Pharmacopeia), NSF (National Sanitation Foundation) or IFOS (International Fish Oil Standards) guarantee that the product has been tested and meets the quality standards. Depending on the transparency of the brand, this certificate can be made available on the website, and offers you a good point of assurance.
The extraction method
The method of extraction is important because it allows to keep or not, all the active components of Ashwagandha.
It is generally recommended to choose a product that has been extracted with a harmless solvent such as water or alcohol, rather than a hazardous chemical solvent.
The form: capsule, powder, liquid ... What is the best form of Ashwagandha?
There are several forms of Ashwagandha available on the market: in capsules, powder, liquid extracts or tinctures. Each form having its own advantages, we have made the point to help you choose:
-
-
Powder
✅ Advantages: the benefits of consuming Ashwagandha in powder form generally include lower cost and ability to mix the powder with other foods or drinks (such as tea, coffee, shaker or other).
⛔Disadvantages: taste is the main disadvantage ofpowdered Ashwagandha, as it may not appeal to everyone. Also, regarding dosage, it can be more difficult to measure an accurate dose of powder.
👨👩👧👦 For whom: for everyone, ideal for people who have difficulty swallowing capsules.
-
L’extrait liquide
Consider your personal preferences, health needs or allergies to choose the best form of Ashwagandha for you.
The brand
Before choosing a product, it is important to find out about the brand or supplier you have selected.
A trusted brand is one that is known for the quality of its products and its transparency, whether it be on the certificates of analysis or on the composition of its products.
Therefore, remember to check the labels to make sure that the product meets your needs in terms of dosage and ingredients. Customer reviews and organic certification can also be good indicators of trust and quality.
By following all these criteria, you are on the right track to choose the best Ashwagandha, or at least the one that will best meet your expectations and the needs of your body.
